These sturdy aluminum chairs are weight-rated at 325 lbs. for the 17" high chair, and 350 lbs for the 19" version. Both chairs measure 22" wide between armrests. The seat depth is 18" for the 17" high chair, and 20" for the 19" version, but there is some additional "butt space" behind that.
The 17" chair is made in China to US specifications. We are very happy to say that the 19" chair is still made in the USA. Sadly, most manufacturers of cheap mass-produced chairs are not interested in having customers who weigh more than the average person, or the additional expense of using heavier materials and making chairs that are weight-rated.
The chairs fold flat for easy carrying and storage, and weigh 6-8 lbs. The seats and seat backs are made of cordura nylon.
Many of our customers need more than 22 inches between armrests. If you need more than 22 inches, please do not order a chair now, but wait for a newer, wider model to be added to our catalog later.
If you would like to be automatically notified when and if we carry portable folding chairs that are wider than 22 inches between arms, or with a weight rating greater than 350 lbs, please send an email to helpdesk@amplestuff.com and type in the subject line "wider/heavier chairs".
It's urgent that you measure your minimum seat width between armrests, before ordering this chair. Here are two good methods:
1. If you have an armchair that is barely big enough for you to sit in, and you snugly fit between the armrests, then measure that width with a tape measure or yardstick. If the chair is a bit larger than you need, then measure the extra space with the tape measure while sitting in it, and then subtract that number from the width of the chair between arms. (Example: Your test chair is 24" between arms. You have 2 inches to spare when you sit in it. You therefore need 24" - 2" = 22" between arms, and you can probably fit comfortably in one of our chairs.)
2. If you don't have such a test chair, you can sit down on a sofa or the edge of your bed, and place two heavy books, one on each side of you, touching your hips. Then get off the bed or sofa without moving the books, and measure the width between them with a tape measure or yardstick.
It is also important to find a chair you now own that is at a comfortable height. If the 17" chair you buy from us is too low for you, you might have trouble getting up off the chair, and you'd be better off in the 19" chair. If the 19" chair is too high for you, the seat can reduce the circulation in your legs by exerting pressure on the back of your thighs if your feet don't touch the floor! Order the chair height that is closest to one that you now find is comfortable. Bear in mind that there is a little give or sag when a person is sitting in the chair, perhaps an inch, so the effective heights are equivalent to a wooden chair that is 16" or 18" high; a wooden chair has no such sag. Most people seem to prefer the 19" chair.
Color choices for the 19" chair, from left to right, include: Black, forest green,
dark teal (discontinued), royal blue, and red. Not shown: Gray, for the 17" chair.

Who shouldn't order a Portable Folding Chair? |
|
If you require more than 22 inches between armrests, you will not be able to sit in these chairs comfortably, or at all. If you weigh more than 325 or 350 lbs, perhaps you should not order the 17" or 19" chair. The manufacturers tell us that the chairs will probably support persons heavier than the weight limits, especially if sat in carefully, on level ground, but for legal reasons they will not commit to higher weight limits at this time. After all, they have no control over the actual weight of who sits on the chairs, or the manner in which they are used. Therefore, if you weigh more than the weight limits, you need to sit in them at your own risk.

How fast can I get a chair?
For orders within the USA, we normally ship these chairs by UPS ground, within 24-48 hours of when the order is received. By ground, the 17" chair will take between 1-5 business days after we ship for you to receive it, depending on how far you are from New York State where we are located; the 19" chair takes between 1-3 days, since we ship from NY or CA, whichever is closest to you.
Is there a faster method?
Although the chair does not weigh very much, the size of the carton combined with airline fuel surcharges that are still in effect makes it very expensive to ship by priority mail or via air, either overnight or 2-day service. Additional charges of $50-$150 or more are possible, depending on where you live. If you must have a chair the fastest way possible, please call and/or email us to discuss the best shipping options and their cost.
What if I live outside the USA?
